Iowa woman faces drug charges

On behalf of Foster Law Office | Jan 10, 2019 | Felonies

Local authorities have reportedly arrested a Fort Madison woman for suspected drug activity, according to reports. The arrest was initiated by the Lee County Narcotics Task Force, who took a 32-year-old Iowa woman into custody. The woman faces multiple drug charges including felonies and could face up to 25 years in prison if she is found guilty.

Only limited information has been provided by the task force pertaining to this case, but it has been confirmed the woman was arrested Jan. 2. The investigation into her alleged activities has apparently been ongoing for some time, after police became aware of the woman and it was insinuated she may have been involved in drug distribution throughout Lee County. The details of these alleged activities were not included in the report.

The woman was apparently arrested on the basis of a felony drug charge dating back to 2018. According to the report, the woman is charged with the delivery of over 5 grams of methamphetamine, an infraction categorized as a class B felony. At this point in the legal process, it is unclear whether the woman has retained criminal defense counsel, and no court date was mentioned in this report.

Drug charges of this severity can result in serious jail time, as this woman reportedly faces if she is found guilty. This is why the burden of proof will rest on Iowa prosecutors to provide evidence beyond reasonable doubt to suggest her involvement in illegal activity. Her defense attorney will review this evidence in advance of a trial date to determine the best next steps for building a compelling case in her defense.
