Iowa woman faces drug charge

Police in Fort Madison have arrested a woman for suspected drug-related activity, according to a recent report. The 55-year-old Iowa woman was arrested on a drug charge after an investigation that suggested she was involved in trafficking. The local sheriff’s office as well as the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement were involved in the arrest, but so far, no court date for the accused woman has been announced.

Very little information pertaining to the specifics of this case have been released to the public. However, it has been confirmed that the woman is believed to have delivered some 5 grams of methamphetamine near a park. This is considered a Class B felony in Iowa, and could result in her serving up to 30 years in a state prison if she is found guilty.

The woman was arrested by state authorities at her place of residence on Oct. 20 after a warrant was processed for her arrest. The investigation into her allegedly illegal activities had been ongoing for some time at this point, as there was considerable question as to whether she was involved in distributing narcotics in Lee County. It is not known whether she has retained criminal defense counsel at this time.

drug charge of this severity could, as already mentioned, result in considerable penalties, including prison, if she is found guilty. With that said, she is entitled under Iowa state and federal law to the presumption of innocence. She will be represented in a criminal court by a defense attorney who will work with her to build a compelling defense against the charges filed against her, using any and all evidence to contest the formal accusations and to seek the best possible result.
