Three people are facing felony charges after the Lee County Narcotics Task Force conducted an investigation into their alleged activities, according to local sources. The three people, all Iowa residents, were all arrested between March 27 and 28 by members of the task force, in association with a number of other local law enforcement agencies. They each face more than one drug charge, which they will face in criminal court with the assistance of their respective attorneys.
According to the report filed in Lee County, the task force had been looking into the activities of the three individuals, a 39-year-old woman and two men aged 40 and 37. The 40-year-old man was arrested on March 27 and charged with two counts of delivery of less than 5 grams of meth within 1000 feet of a public park. Both of these charges are considered class C felonies with enhancements. The other man was arrested on March 28 two outstanding warrants for felony drug charges, and faces the same charges as the older man.
The woman was arrested on the 27th as well, and faces the same charges. All three have been taken into custody, and it is unclear whether they remain there or have been released on bail. No court date has been assigned publicly to any of the three accused individuals.
A felony drug charge can carry a heavy penalty under Iowa state law. However, the burden of proof rests with prosecutors to provide evidence gathered by the task force to prove beyond a reasonable doubt all three individuals’ complicity in these alleged crimes. Each of them will be represented by a defense attorney, who will carefully review all the facts of the case before building a compelling defense that could see the charges reduced or even dropped.
