Misdemeanor possession charges filed against Iowa residents

On behalf of Foster Law Office | Mar 7, 2019 | Drug Charges

Police say they found a veritable cornucopia of drugs in a Hancock County home following a search conducted by several law enforcement agencies. Iowa police worked in conjunction with the local sheriff’s office as well as the Garner Police Department in conducting the search. Both individuals are faced with multiple misdemeanor possession charges as well as drug tax stamp violations and at least one felony.

According to the limited information provided by the report, police pulled the couple over in Forest City for reasons that were not provided. A search of the car allegedly revealed the couple to be in possession of 15 grams of what is believed to be methamphetamine. This led to a secondary search of the couple’s home.

There, police say they found a large amount of drug paraphernalia as well as more methamphetamine, marijuana, and psilocybin mushrooms, a common hallucinogen. The exact amounts of each substance recovered from the home were not specified in the report. The man now faces felony possession of mushrooms and meth, while the woman faces misdemeanor charges for the same. Both individuals face six counts of drug stamp violation and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. It is unknown whether they remain in police custody at this time.

Misdemeanor possession is less severe than a felony charge of the same, but the sheer number of charges filed against this couple could see them both face jail time if found guilty. This is why each of them will be represented in Iowa court by their own criminal defense attorney. These attorneys will carefully review the facts of the case, including the search of the vehicle and the home, in an effort to ensure all applicable legal rights were and are respected throughout the process in order to ensure fair proceedings before the court.
