Education
    B.A., University of Iowa, 1978
J.D., University of Iowa College of Law, 1981

Davis Foster is a 1981 graduate (Juris Doctor With Distinction) of the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He received a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Iowa in 1978, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a political science major. Davis first practiced law with a local law firm, eventually becoming a partner in Barker, Cruise, Kennedy, Houghton & Foster. In 1994 he opened his own office.
The State of Iowa, and specifically the Iowa Supreme Court and the Iowa State Bar Association, has set standards for determining how a lawyer may classify himself or herself as a specialist or identify the primary areas of law where a lawyer focuses his or her law practice. Davis meets the criteria for listing the following Fields of Practice: Trial Law, Personal Injury Law and Criminal Law. This means that the percentage of his practice devoted to those areas and the amount of continuing legal education received on an annual basis qualifies Davis to advertise those fields of practice. The areas of law included in these categories is certainly broad, but are intended by Davis to include all areas of civil and criminal litigation.
This does not mean that potential clients with other legal needs must go elsewhere for legal services, instead referring non-litigation matters to other attorneys in the community.

[  About the Firm  ||  The Attorney  ||  Office  ]

The determination of the need for legal services and the choice of a lawyer are extremely important decisions and should not be based solely upon advertisements or self-proclaimed expertise. This disclosure is required by rule of the Supreme Court of Iowa.
A description or indication of limitation or practice does not mean that any agency or board has certified such lawyer as a specialist or expert in an indicated field of law practice, nor does it mean that such lawyer is necessarily any more expert or competent than any other lawyer. All potential clients are urged to make their own independent investigation and evaluation of any lawyer being considered. This notice is required by rule of the Supreme Court of Iowa.
